Many artists have found inspiration in these dramatic surroundings through the years. An the end of May each year the BALEJAZZ Jazzfestival is being arranged in Balestrand. The festival draws attention to the village both from famous names within music and from other jazz- lovers. As the festival opens, the “ Balestrand Art Village” also opens with its many art-exhibitions and- happenings.

The Gallery Munken at Sognefjord aquarium shows 50 different works in wooden carving.

At the pier in the center of Balestrand lies Det gyldne Huset (the golden house) where the artists Bjøberg and Adams have residence. A couple that takes good care of visitors.

In Dragsvik lives Solveig Haukaas, who is known for her great works in enamel and has won many international prices. We recommend a visit to her workshop with many tourist friendly items.

Another artist couple lives in Kvamsøy, 11 km from Balestrand. Geir Hjetland has done a lot of works in aluminum. He is famous for his ornamentation of public areas and his works has been placed in many different locations in Norway. Magni Jensen is a ceramist and makes many beautiful potteries for use.
